So the story goes….In 1968, the band building at K-State (Nichols Hall) burned down and they lost all the instruments & music. The band director had 1 piece of sheet music, Wabash Cannonball. So, they made copies and borrowed instruments from the local High School. They were able to make it to the basketball game that night and played the song. History was made, as it became the fight song. Later, the rocking back & forth dance was added while the song is being played. Wabash Cannonball is a song about a train. You might also notice that KSU train playing Crazy Train at all the games. This concludes your history lesson.
